New App Released
Boxcar's Brand New Interface
Finally! Boxcar’s app has been updated for the first time in over three years with features to make commuting with Boxcar even more seamless. Below you will find a list of all the latest features that are now available by updating your app from the Google Play or App Store. Some of these features such as bus tracking in the app have been in our pipeline for 7 years but with the help of our dedicated team we have fought through the weeds and made it to production.
New features include:
- Track Bus - This option will be illuminated in your ticket 45 minutes prior to departure. Right now the tracker updates every 60 seconds, and as we see how it rolls out and the impact on our cloud hosting costs, we'll dial it in to 30 seconds, 15 seconds, and more frequently. If you want to update faster than 60 seconds, you can always hit the back button and hit Track Bus again.
- Improved Favorites - This option has the title of the listing and time description, and instead of scrolling up and down- it scrolls left to right. This change is in response to many customers who suggested this change.
- Member Banner - This will show your "member since" date, total member savings, and give you the option to add a profile photo. An upcoming feature will give additional discounts and benefits to members the longer they have been continuous members.
- New Transit "Card" - This makes it easier to cancel and also view pickups and drop-off locations and times. During weeks when we change pickup locations (like we may during this coming week when Pres. Biden addresses UNGA) this option will be updated to improve the flexibility of our routing.
- Make Reservation Button - Previously, if you had existing parking or bus reservations, the "make reservation" button disappeared - this button will now remain visible so you don't have to go to the left-hand menu of the app to make a new reservation.
- Notifications - Pop-up notifications are integrated into this update. So you'll start seeing notifications when one of your favorites which was sold out has a parking spot or bus seat open up on a day when you don't have an existing reservation.
These features will also free up almost half the time for our customer service team which means faster responses, quicker notifications, and some less stressed people!
The pandemic knocked Boxcar down and ground our tech development to a near-halt. It's taken a herculean effort by our tech team, 100% internal since inception, to get back up to speed. Expect more frequent updates in the future than you've seen in the past.
