Late April Boxcar Bus Update
Boxcar's bus ridership is officially entering the GAMESTOP technical formation. We hit a new post-pandemic high of over 10 riders per bus last week, with a high of 17 riders one day.
While this is still a maximum of 30% of total occupancy, it's a far cry from a few weeks ago when we were doing less than 5 riders per bus. Combined with what I’m hearing from some of our long-time customers it looks like we’ll see another uptick in the next few weeks.
Boxcar isn’t going to wait to fill up our single bus route before adding more, though. We expect to add a second AM and PM bus on our Madison/Chatham route next Monday next Monday, May 3rd. Details on timing and whether we have permission to start that route at Convent Station (which is our goal) will be forthcoming. Take this survey if you’re in that area and going back to commuting in the next few weeks.
We want to start our Westfield/Cranford route before summer and just went out for quotes. We’ll send out a survey for that route soon. The goal would be to start that in Fanwood eventually, but it looks like it might take a bit more time to get approved for a pickup there.
We're still dropping off all throughout midtown and our buses are all equipped with Wi-Fi, power outlets at every seat, and the best chauffeurs you've ever met! We are still operating at 50% capacity and require masks but no proof of vaccination to ride.
