Celebrating 7 Years of Boxcar: A Journey from Parking to Premier Transit Service
Boxcar is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our history as a commuter service. What began in 2017 as a commuter parking solution has grown into a staple of suburban-to-city transportation for thousands of commuters. As we celebrate seven years of transit and nearly 600,000 bus reservations, we reflect on the journey that brought us here. From our roots in Cranford, we have expanded to 21 towns and operate seven distinct bus routes connecting New Jersey to Midtown Manhattan.
Boxcar’s bus service started as almost a gimmick in 2017 when the Summer of Hell diverted all Midtown bound trains to Hoboken. Our bus service was a means of getting commuters to work on time and reliably- something just never changes. What was intended to be a summer long experiment slowly turned into a full blown revenue stream as customers implored us to continue running buses into the fall season.
We initially managed bus reservations manually using a paper-based system and utilized Excel spreadsheets for comprehensive tracking. Today, we have transitioned to an online reservation and ticketing system, marking a significant evolution in our operational efficiency and customer service capabilities. As part of our ongoing improvements, we are preparing to integrate fleet tracking into our Boxcar app. This will give customers the ability to track their bus, see traffic patterns, ETA’s, and historical GPS trackers.

Our commitment to providing an exceptional commuting experience has driven us to continually innovate and improve our services. Over the years, we have partnered with several esteemed companies, including Yankee, Panorama, and My Limo, to enhance our offerings and extend our reach.
