Boxcar's Sinkhole Crisis Plan

Navigating the I-80 Sinkhole Crisis: Boxcar’s Plan
New Jersey commuters faced an unprecedented challenge: a series of sinkholes along I-80 near Wharton, caused by the collapse of abandoned mineshafts beneath the highway. These sinkholes led to significant road closures, disrupting daily travel for thousands.
State Senator Bucco discussed the idea of running emergency bus service to solve as a commuting crutch during the time of mass traffic back ups. Boxcar heard this and in the span of just a couple days sprung together the following plan.
Boxcar found unused parking areas west of I-80 where we are able to run bus service along Route 46 to the Rockaway mall where there is a huge parking lot for commuters to utilize. We put together a complete proposal and were able to present it to local elected officials and transit leaders of the area during this year’s Avenues In Motion conference.
Although it was just a planning exercise, we were able to once again show that Boxcar is ready to service NJ commuters.
